Welcome

How Yoga, Corona and a label maker changed my life

The about section on my site tells you a little about me, but I wanted to take a moment to tell you how I got here.

For all of us it’s fair to say that 2020 has been a challenging year, but as my yoga teacher always says, “You can do hard things.”

So here we are at the end of an unprecedented year and looking at what is ahead with rising health concerns and a vaccine starting to ship, but all a little worn down with all that the past year has brought. One of my favorite sayings from this past year is that “We are all in the same storm, but we are not all in the same boat.” For me this year has brought some of my highest highs and lowest lows. It has challenged me to realize that the work I was doing professionally did not, as my daughter’s kindergarten teacher would say, “fill my bucket.” I have had the privilege over the last 15 years of working on amazing brands and with amazing teams, but found myself this past year with an empty, and frankly, leaky bucket. I was not the person I wanted to be or the role model I had envisioned I would be for my children. Whether it be concern about Corona, the mixed messages from media, the fear about doing the “wrong thing” for my children and how best to educate them or being totally over endless Zoom calls, I was exhausted.

In the beginning of 2020 I started practicing Yoga and found a tiny sanctuary in my classes and yoga practice. This practice has been my anchor through the last several months and I have now found myself in the best physical and emotional shape of my life.

My teacher always challenges us to bring your best self to the world and I had come to the realization that I was no longer doing that. So, like many this year, I took some time to think about what my best self truly looks like;

  • Helping others
  • Problem solving
  • Leaving things better than I found them
  • A love of order and efficiency
  • Getting shit done

These things and a need for something to allow me to be my best self brought about the idea that I could help others like myself struggling to keep their heads above water and help them truly thrive in our new normal and the spaces we call our own. Using my own type A personality for good to help others find a bit more efficiency and peace in their lives.

With the idea and excitement brewing, the next step was what to call this new venture. Many entrepreneurs will tell you that naming their new adventure is the toughest part. For Mother’s Day this year I got a Hummingbird feeder, something my grandmother always had on her back porch (more on her in a future post) and placed it right outside my office window. I was immediately visited by the loveliest birds and was mesmerized by their color, speed, efficiency and was captivated by how their busy wings found rest to stop and enjoy their food. We are all busy, that will never go away, but my mission is to help you create spaces that you love where you can truly rest and enjoy before you must fly off to your next amazing adventure or soccer practice.

I am not sure that without yoga and a national pandemic that I would have had the courage to do what I have done and go out on my own with a new business venture, but I am thrilled that I have and that I am here bringing the best version of myself to you to help you create spaces you love.

One of my other favorite things about starting my own business is calling on the expertise of some of my great partners from my past to help.
